How long have you been with Mott
MacDonald?
Since September 2005, but I started doing annual summer placements
with Motts in June 2001.
What did you do before starting at Mott MacDonald?
After graduating from Manchester University, I went to Spain for 14
months to be an English teacher.
What made you choose your career?
I had an excellent experience working on an exciting civil
engineering project in the Engineering Education Scheme. This
offered to me whilst in the Sixth Form, which was what made me
first consider engineering as a career option. I also wanted to go
into a career that boasted diversity in its projects and a
practical approach – I didn’t want to be number-crunching all
day!
What's the best bit of your job?
I enjoy being with like-minded people, working on up-and-coming
international projects, using my Spanish and knowing that every job
is different - which means constantly fresh ideas are
required.
What's been your favourite project?
Having worked on several projects and various different aspects,
it’s hard to say. I like projects where I’m given responsibility
and given the opportunity to make decisions so that I really feel
part of a team. I’ve been able to experience this in many of the
projects I’ve been involved in.
What are your professional interests?
At the moment I’m working in many different areas and still
finding my feet, but I’m very geared towards increasing awareness
and perception of engineering as a career. I’ve also been involved
in several activities involving visits and links with local
schools.
What are your personal interests?
I’m keen on anything Spanish – language, culture, food, music,
dancing and socialising.
