Working closely with client BAA and contractor
Laing O'Rourke, we helped introduce time and cost saving
innovations on the Heathrow Airside Road Tunnel which involves 1.3
km of twin bored tunnels and excavation up to 17m deep
At Mott MacDonald, we offer a complete ground engineering design
service worldwide – from small urban redevelopment to heavy civil
tunnelling and foundation design for underground works on major
energy, water and transportation projects.
Where we’ve come from
Our origins are rooted in tunnelling, dating back to our founders’
involvement in the development of London’s underground system at
the turn of the century – an association that still continues
today. As the consultancy in tunnelling grew so did the need for
in-house geological and geotechnical advice. A separate permanent
geotechnical capability was established in 1978 and this has grown
into a central capacity including foundations engineering of around
80 staff providing support to the Mott MacDonald Group worldwide as
well as undertaking its own specialist direct commissions. Regional
offices worldwide, with their own geotechnical capability were also
established in the 1980’s.
We are theUK agent for FLAC3D and other finite
difference packages for modelling soil and rock mass behaviour
