Implementing then
supervising procedures for managing tunnelling construction risks
was part of our role in helping Transmetro develop Metro do Porto’s
new light rail system
All tunnel projects involve risk – financial, programme and
technical. We make it our job to understand these risks and begin
managing them early on.
Mott MacDonald’s experts are skilled in identifying risk,
prioritising action and advising on risk management solutions. Our
systematic approach involves a team effort encompassing the
customer, designer and contractor. Ultimately, our aim is to
minimise potential detrimental events – where elimination is not
possible – and manage them in order to achieve the project’s
objectives cost-effectively.
Risk management
advice is part of our role on the network of automated people mover
tunnels under development at Dulles international airport in
Washington DC, USA
We maintain expertise in the use of both analytical and computer
based tools for risk assessment. This expertise, gained over many
years, has been applied over a large range of studies. Projects to
date include hazard identification and assessment, HAZOPs, fault
and event tree analyses, risk studies, safety cases, and
reliability and consequence evaluations.
From research and advice for private sector projects to due
diligence and project lifetime monitoring for project financiers –
we provide the full spectrum of services including advice on
financial and contractual risk assessment and management.
In the field of health and safety, we’ve acted as planning
supervisor and have developed a fully compliant system for
evaluating risks in accordance with EU directive 92/57 EEC (CDM
Regulations 1994 - UK).
We have applied risk management techniques to a variety of tunnel
projects – the following offers the briefest cross-section:
- Heathrow Express, UK
- Jubilee Line Extension, UK
- New York Cross Harbor Tunnel, USA
- Channel Tunnel Rail Link, UK
- Dulles Airport APM, USA
- Heathrow Terminal 5, UK
- Shanghai Second Sewerage Project, China
- Toronto Rapid Transit, Canada
